Bus Conversion Tiny House Tour | Off Grid Solar School Bus.

In October, 2018 we sold everything and hit the road. We live full time in our bus turned cabin on wheels so that we can travel across the country. We have no idea what we’re doing. We don’t know how long we’ll do this, but we’re going to do our best to enjoy every second of it.

This is our perfectly imperfect tiny house tour. We bought a retired school bus and converted it into a rustic cabin on wheels ourselves. 5 years ago we saw a couple on YouTube traveling full time while making money on the road. We were taken by that lifestyle and wanted it for ourselves, so we started making decisions that would hopefully help to one day make that dream a reality.

That's when the skoolie came in. We found videos of people converting school buses into tiny houses. School buses were solid vehicles that were fantastic platforms to build on and were also CHEAP, relatively speaking. For just a couple thousand dollars you could have the foundation for a custom build that your dreams were made of, so that's what we did.

After two years of converting, we ended up with our custom built tiny house on wheels. It's rough around the edges, in some cases literally, but it's ours. It works, and it allows us to travel full time. All together, we estimate our final costs were ~$23k. We could have done it MUCH cheaper, but we didn't know what we were doing so we made some costly mistakes.

Still, our 23k custom built tiny house is MUCH less expensive than new and many used RVs or campers out there, and it has everything we want and nothing we don't.

We drive our Subaru Outback behind the bus. This travel setup helps us go where we want, when we want, and to stay for essentially as long as we want.
