From Dream to Reality: Brittney & Harry's Custom Tiny Home Journey.

The Tiny home is a 39-foot-long, 8.5-foot-wide Denali model, customized to meet their preferences. Key features include:

  • Gooseneck Bedroom: One of the couple's earliest decisions was to include a gooseneck bedroom, which allows for full standing height in the bedroom. It includes bedside tables with storage, drawers under the bed, and a large storage area above the bathroom, accessible by a pocket door.

  • Kitchen: The kitchen has butcher block countertops, a farmhouse sink with a view, a four-burner propane stove, and a dishwasher (one of the design decisions that led to making the house 39 feet instead of 37). There’s also a good-sized fridge and a pantry, which stores both pantry items and their pets' food and toys.

  • Living Room: Open to the kitchen, the living room has an entertainment center designed by Harry for his gaming consoles, controllers, and their board games. Brittney’s decorative Lego sets are displayed throughout the house, adding a personal touch.

  • Bathroom: The bathroom features a dual washer-dryer combo, a flushing toilet, a subway-tiled shower with his-and-hers cubbies, and a specially designed nook for their cats' litter box.

  • Storage: They made extensive use of built-in storage throughout the house. Each step of the custom staircase leading to the gooseneck bedroom doubles as a storage drawer. Additional storage is found under the bed, in kitchen cabinets, and in the outdoor storage area for sporting gear like snowboards and bikes.

  • Utilities: The home uses propane for the stove and water heater, and has two mini-split units for heating and cooling. It's connected to utilities at Tiny Tranquility, where they pay $720 per month for site rent and amenities.

Brittney and Harry decided to embrace a tiny house lifestyle after watching TV shows about it. They chose the Denali model from Timbercraft but made customizations, such as opting for a gooseneck bedroom for more headspace. The couple didn't handle the construction themselves but were heavily involved in the design process, ensuring it fit their needs, especially for their three pets.

They found a spot at Tiny Tranquility park on the Oregon coast, which lined up perfectly with the completion of their home, features a propane-powered stove, a tankless water heater, and lots of custom storage. They enjoy outdoor living with a custom deck and proximity to the beach, where they take daily walks.

For Brittney and Harry, building a tiny home wasn't just about simplifying their life; it was about creating a space where their pets could thrive.

Their Husky, Iskey, has a unique connection with the beach near their tiny home in Oregon. Despite her age, she quickly adapted to her new coastal life, and now their daily beach walks are the highlight of her day. They even designed the staircase with special carpet grips to ensure she could move around safely, as older dogs often struggle with slippery surfaces.

The couple's two cats, Kitten and Lucille, also have some clever accommodations. One of the most innovative features of their tiny home is the hidden litter box nook in the bathroom. It’s a feature that surprises guests, as it keeps the litter box discreet and the house smelling fresh. Kitten, a fluffy orange cat, enjoys lounging in the cozy spaces around the house, while Lucille, the more adventurous of the two, loves to perch on their custom-built cat tower in the living room, enjoying the view.

For Brittney and Harry, their tiny home is more than just a house—it’s a reflection of their lifestyle, love for their pets, and the coastal beauty they’ve come to cherish. After three years, their carefully designed space has not only provided them with a simpler, more intentional way of living but also given their pets a comfortable and loving environment. With Iskey’s joyful runs on the beach, Kitten’s cozy nooks, and Lucille’s high perches, the tiny home has become a sanctuary for all five of them.
