Stunning 280 SqFt Garage Converted Into Tiny House.

Diana and her family own a small home in Oakland, CA. They had a garage that was nearly about to fall over in their backyard, so they decided to make a better use of the space. Since they have a small home, they figured that if they built something, it could have multiple uses. They use it as an Airbnb and as a guest house when friends and family come to visit.

The most impressive part is that it has already paid for itself in 4 years, which means now everything they make is profit. They plan to continue to use it as an Airbnb while they're children are young and then allow their kids to use it as a homework/hangout space when they get a little older. It's so amazing how many functions one tiny space can have for a family and what an incredible way to create multiple streams of income for themselves.

Diana: when we bought our home, there was a cinder-block garage in the footprint of the existing casita. we collaborated with our close friend ming who is a brilliant architect, and were able to make the most of the small footprint, mostly expanding vertically! our super friendly contractor eric of e+j builders did beautiful work, and diana put her love of interior design into action.

the casita is filled with a few treasures, books, and items from local shops we love as well as artists from etsy. we will soon be setting up an online store to link to some of our favorite local artists and suppliers… like high wire coffee, the berkeley botanical garden gift shop, and fort point brewing co. which we include in the casita for guests to enjoy.
